Photos from the Griffith Park shoot. Hair & Makeup by Rachael Beauty

My station is setup for this 60's romantic style half updo.

Model Haley G. I am curing her hair with a 1 inch marcel iron.
Sectioning the front part of her side sweep bangs.
Blow Drying fringe.

I also did her makeup for this shoot. I added a flower and put on a necklace. Pretty!

In the car on the way to Griffith Park.

First location. Tree! Love the girly outfit.

Great smile

This peach/ burgundy collab really pops and compliments her skin tones.

I added a peachy red lipstick to her lips and shimmery gold shadow to tone down the smokey eye.

Werk it!

Doll Head: Runway updo. Crimped & Spray gel.

The beginning. This is how the doll looked when I first started. Then a couple hours later...

It looked like this. Something I have never done or tried before.

I wanted to do something I had never done before and mix different textures.

I love volume and I love sleek. So I combined them.
Deciding how to do the bangs or front section was the most perplexing.

I crimped the middle section and pinned. I wet and spray gelled the sides. Using the blow dryer to ensure it was smooth.

I incorporated a small section of gelled hair into the crimped part.

I wanted there to be a distinct wet look and separate crimped look, together.

I pin curled wet pin curls to dry at the base.
Using the blow dryer to speed up the set. & teased the bottom crimped part.

Got the front bump just right and proportioned.

I used a french twist rolling pin roller for the middle section. It is by Conair.

Pinned a pin curl at the top

Final look.

Dollhead: 1950's Vintage Curls

The inspiration video for my vintage hair look:
Actress: Lauren Bacall

Followed Cherry Dollface instructions!

I decided to try this vintage curls look from Cherry Dollface's Youtube tutorials.
She has great vintage how-to's!
I love the way classic S waves look. And it very much does take lots of practice.
I am still practicing.
It's about neat curls, direction, hair shaping, teasing, setting. Rollers, pin curls, pinned curls, bobby pins! Lots of good stuff. Don't give up! It will take time. And these looks take lots of patience. Not really a quick look. It is involved. I think the next time I try this look, I am going to use medium length hair. Long hair weighs the curls down too much. Try not to brush through hair too hastily. You will ruin the curls. Be gentle & good luck! :)

First. Curled with a 1 inch marcel and pinned.

Hair spray over the entire head. A few times.

Cooled to set curls.

Took out the clips and combed with fingers.

brushed with paddle brush lightly. Holding the bottom of the curl while you comb & shape.

The back wasn't too great. Should have pinned. It's too long.

I added a flower and glasses.

Teased the first section of the bangs and shaped to the side.
Hair Sprayed! Final look.

Enjoy my video of the pictures!

First Music Video Hair Styling!

Dec 31, 1969 | Source: Keek.com
Short video of me right before the shoot!

I got a chance to work on Trance singer, Jes Brieden's hair during her music video shoot of "Can't Stop." “Can’t Stop”, the sensational first single from JES’ highly respected 2011 mix album “Unleash The Beat. I was very flattered that although I don't have tons of experience, Jes wanted me to do her hair based on my work portfolio on model mayhem. I am very grateful for that opportunity and the connections made.

We shot in the LA river. I didn't bring boots to get dirty in. ;)

The dancers practicing their moves.
Working on location in downtown Los Angeles and in studio in Burbank was definitely an interesting and fun ride. It was a very long day, from 8am prep time to touch ups until 11pm that same night. It was all worth it. Very fun and talented crew. And had awesome help from my assistant for that shoot.

Prepping JES' second hair look.
It was pretty rough getting the hair from curly and wild to smooth and classy, but I managed!

I know the feeling very well, because I can't stop either! :) xo

Who is Rachael Beauty?

A few days ago on Facebook someone asked me which girl I was on my profile. He couldn't tell right away because I had so many pictures. Different pictures of different models and of myself and friends. At first I was wondering how is it not obvious who I am from my profile? Then I began searching around my pictures and albums. It did seem a bit confusing because I am not branding myself enough on my profile! I want it clear and direct about who I am online in every way possible  If someone can't tell what my profession is and they have access to my personal and professional pictures then I need to change the way I present myself online. I am glad he mentioned this, as no one else has. He wasn't in the beauty business, which is why it is even more important to me.

Mackenzie's avant-garde hair and makeup look by Rachael Beauty

So, let me introduce myself properly. I am Rachael Beauty, a creative hair stylist/designer from Los Angeles, California. I specialize in make overs, updos, styling, blow-outs, haircuts, & editorial, avant-garde looks. I am dedicated to my craft and approach beauty with a degree of professionalism and tact. I enjoy working together as a team.  I like to achieve the best results with technique and style. Not taking short cuts, even if it means it takes a little longer. The end result is far more superior than if I simply cut corners. No pun intended. :)

Pilar's contemporary victorian look. I used a wand curler then pinned to set.
Finished with hair spray and teased.

I graduated from Aveda Institute Los Angeles in the summer of 2011. I am a licensed cosmetologist for the state of California. I am open-minded on techniques and I love learning and trying new things. I have a great sense of humor and am very social and people friendly. I love to network online and in person. I have many goals and plans for my future in the hair & beauty business.

I used 3 different colors of extensions and braided and pieced together as a semi crown on top.

I take my work seriously and I love what I do. I love beauty.

I also excel at social media. Brand presence, visibility, audience and community development are my specialties. If you have no idea what that means and just have a Facebook account to promote your business then you probably need to talk to me. The internet is a shift in communication and it isn't going anywhere.
I am new in creating my brand for Rachael Beauty. I know exactly what I have to do. Most requires trial and error of various techniques online. It's a learned habit that comes gradually over time.

Get to know your clients, listen to their needs and respond in a friendly way; not as someone simply trying to sell them something. Stand out. Care. The rewards will come.

Trying not to sound too much like a résumé, but my work is my passion and I love making beautiful things come to life. Have a lovely day and thank you for reading.
